stargatefic100 for Teal'c
I signed up to write for Teal'c for stargatefic100. Why Teal'c you might ask?

1) While I've been seeing a lot of Teal'c fic out there, there is never enough ;)
2) Most of my larger stories are about the team with a Daniel or Jack flare. This gives the chance to do somethign different.
3) I write shorter Teal'c fics. If I had to do Sam, Jack, or Daniel it would probably take years ;)

So, below the cut is my table :)

So, clarify for me .. this means you have to write 100 stories, each around one of the above specific topics? And do you have to write them in order? Inquiring minds want to know. :)
Working for the Mandroidmoonshayde on January 25th, 2006 11:13 pm (UTC)
nope not in oreder and yes you need to write 100. I picked Teal'c because I can write nice short little fics. They have to be at least 100 words long. So, they aren't really fics, technically, but I think it's a nice destress.

If you're interested, check the rules over at the comm. You can pick any character (as long as 5 other people don't have him/her).

I would have done Daniel or Jack but I write long and novel sized fics for them. No way I'd get 100 done ;)

Very true. I'm looking forward to reading yours. :)
Working for the Mandroid: Familymoonshayde on January 26th, 2006 01:35 am (UTC)
Oh thanks!

I tend to like to switch things up. I usually write team fics with a Jack or Daniel focus to them, but as much as I love those two, they can drive me crazy some times. Writing Sam, Teal'c, or someone else brings me the variety I need and helps me came at the characters in different ways.

Teal'c will be my medicine for the next few months ;)
aizjanikaaizjanika on January 26th, 2006 01:14 am (UTC)
Wow! I am really tempted to take on one of these, mainly for the same reason as NaNo--to force me to write and this time, to actually post something. heh I'm just not ready, though, and I know it.

Good luck!
Working for the Mandroid: Survivormoonshayde on January 26th, 2006 01:34 am (UTC)
They don't have to be long. Each one needs to be at least 100 words. So you can write little snippets if you like.

That is why I am doign Teal'c. Like I said, my Jack, Daniel team stuff tends to be long. Teal'c I can defintely manage to do 100 shorter fics.
aizjanikaaizjanika on January 26th, 2006 04:46 am (UTC)
I think that's a good idea. I'm just not really ready to start writing yet, though something like this would force me! hehe Maybe I'll try writing a few stories without actually signing up.

Do you have some ideas for the various prompts or are you just going to wing it?
Working for the Mandroid: Memoriesmoonshayde on January 26th, 2006 08:05 am (UTC)
Sort of. I'll wing most of them, I think, but I've already got a few ideas brewing and started. I just haven't indulged completely because I have that Jack/Daniel friendship zine entry to finish, which is aleady at 93 pages (at least I am close to the end) and my beta keeping scolding me about finishing my team novels. I'm so bad for starting things and not finishing them!

Hey, maybe try writing a few out on your own. If you think you can do it, then sign up. Should be fun.
aizjanikaaizjanika on January 26th, 2006 09:26 am (UTC)
I'm bad for starting things and not finishing them, too! That's part of my problem with The Hathor Legacy stuff. I have about five different things I've started and not finished. I lose interest pretty quickly, I think.

I think this does sound like a *lot* of fun, but I have no practice at getting the characters' voices--and no clue how to do it. I've actually got a bunch of writing books here that I was going to go through and use some of the ideas to help me go through my Nano novel and see if any of that was salvageable. There are some small parts of it that I really like... (It's not ever going to see the light of day as a novel, though.)

Anyway, I'd love to give this a try for fun, but then I'd actually have to let everyone see my terrible writing. lol I know I could write 100 small fics. My question is, would I want anyone to see those 100 fics? ;-) Do I want to put my "practice" writing out there for everyone to see? Eeek!

What zine is your Jack/Daniel frienship story going to be in? I'd love to read that, though those print zines are awfully expensive. Is the whole zine going to be Jack/Daniel friendship?
Working for the Mandroid: Lonelymoonshayde on January 26th, 2006 12:17 pm (UTC)
Yeah, you'd have to share ;) What I usually do with the characters voices is I think of an episode, a few episodes, whatever...I think about their dialogue and I think about how they carry themselves. Then when I sit down to write I keep that all in mind. I know I am the writer, but I think how would Jack react? What would Sam say? What would Daniel do? Why is Teal'c there? Things like that. I hear their voices in my head and I let them do the talking.

Sounds kind of insane but it works.

I don't generally do zines because my feeling is you really shouldn't have to pay for fanfic, but I promised one. It'll be in Ancients' Gate. It's your typical off-world team exploration stuff, but Jack and Daniel get separated, so it's mainly about them. Something's wrong with Daniel and he has to struggle to keep himself together--mentally and physically--and help Jack find Sam and Teal'c and get to the Stargate. It's action/adventure, character driven with a twinge of horror to it. I'm actually quite proud of it, even if many people will probably never see it! LOL

I'd say give yourself a couple of days to mull over it and practive a few blurbs. Use the prompts here and see if they give you an idea. If you find that you are writing and feel confident enough to post, then sign up :)

LOL I know. I hear that in my head, but it doesn't translate to the paper for some reason. That's why I was thinking of writing Mitchell--he's new and maybe wouldn't be quite so hard to write about. I love Daniel so much--too much, really. I have very, very specific ideas about who he is and what he'd do or so and it doesn't necessarily coincide with how others tend to see him. Worse, it comes out all wrong when I try to write it--mostly.

It'll be in Ancients' Gate.

Oh, awesome! If it's downloadable, I'll buy it. I used my birthday money to buy almost all of their zines when they were having that special last month. The ones I didn't buy were the author's choice ones (because they weren't included, I think) and Jack's Viking Sky because I really didn't care about having the illustrations or the story (or the story, really--reading it once was enough for me *g*). :-)
Working for the Mandroid: Greenmoonshayde on January 26th, 2006 05:41 pm (UTC)
Heh, I never could get myself to finish Jack's Viking's Sky...

The author's choice was nice. Sort of fun in a way for the contributors, but most of the fics are available online anyway. So people who read would only be buying them to see fics all dressed up, fancy, and with pictures.

I have the most trouble with Mitchell! He scares me! But I'll be writing him again soon. I am always afraid he'll morph into Jack on me. I just keep remembering, he's Southern, he's Southern...that helps me a lot because my dad's from the South. I can write him and sound like I know what I'm saying ;)

Still scares me though. He might be fun for you to try, though.

And psshah to what people think. Write what's true to you. Not everyone in the world is going to agree with your vision. Most people don't really seem to be into my characterization, whther it's gen, ship or slash but I am not changing my view.

Just don't write sniveling man-babies. ;)

I had to and some parts of it were awesome, but it got squickier in a lot of ways, as you know *g*

I know, but I want to buy them anyway. I like having the stories sort of pre-selected and edited and all in one place. It'll be a while before I finish reading the other zines, though. I print out a story every once in a while to take to bed with me instead of a book. :-) (I know it sounds wasteful, but I save up paper that was printed out, but not needed to save and I print stories on the other side--or I use both sides of the pages. I add headers and footers with the story title, so if I ever dropped it, I could put it together. hehe)

Ooh! I hadn't thought of that. I've been reading a lot of Daniel/Cameron because I was reccing that this month, and it's been fun to see the different takes on the character. Some have him more "good ol' boy" than I see him. Some have him more jovial than I see him, but maybe they're right given the last couple of episodes. hehe

While Mitchell is Southern, he's not really a good ol' boy, really, but maybe he has some of that in him way down deep. hehe I actually like that Southern aspect of Mitchell, but I hadn't thought of trying to work that in.

And psshah to what people think. Write what's true to you. Not everyone in the world is going to agree with your vision. Most people don't really seem to be into my characterization, whther it's gen, ship or slash but I am not changing my view.

Really? Wow. I think your characterizations are spot on.

Just don't write sniveling man-babies. ;)

LOL But I want to! *g* No, I really don't, but I honestly want to go dark and deep (not a dark fic, but just deep emotionally) and I don't know how to do that. It comes out as sniveling man-babies! ROTFL! At least I can see it, though. hehe Actually, I don't think it's as bad as all of that, but definitely not what I intended. But I don't want to cop out and miss the mark emotionally either--they way they do on the show since season 3 - 4 and beyond, for the most part. I think that's why Abyss is such a great episode. They went there. When was the last time they did that, though?

In my NaNo story, though, I either ended up with icky ickiness or I copped out and wrote it superficially just to get it down. That's why I think there are some parts that I can work on, though. I know what's wrong with it, and just have to figure out how to get what I want.

anonymous? You afraid tyo post under your one name?? ;)

Not sure if you just didn't have time to sign in or didn't want anyone to see. The comment is screened. If you want me to lift it, let me know.

I don't think Mitchell is a good ol'boy, but he's sure nicer than Jack. Just like Jonas was nicer than Daniel. Different personalities. But I seem to get Mitchell when I think of him from the South. His voice clicks for me. And it's nice to have points of reference. But it's funny becauase as soon as I take the South out of him, I get flustered. So, it has to work for me.

You know, Daniel/Cameron totally squicks me out. I really can't stand it. I can't even buy a lot of the gen friendship fic. And I like both the characters. I just don't see them at the point of being buddies yet. It took Jack and Daniel a long time to reach the point they did so it's tough for me to buy the Daniel/Cameron fic out there. Over time, I'm sure I will be able to see it better. I don't think I could ever do the slash though. I am much too much of a Jack/Daniel OTP for slash.

Well, if you ever want a nice but honest opinion, you can show me what you got. I know you don't like criticism, but I'm not mean ;)

Hey, Moonshayde - how did you come up with the words to base the grid on? Or was it borrowed from another 100 fic grid? This is a nice idea. Hmmmmm...:::thinks about doing this with the kill_dr_weir comm.
Working for the Mandroidmoonshayde on April 9th, 2006 04:18 am (UTC)
This is the grid for stargatefic100 which was borrowed off something else. I am sure you can adapt it for your community.

Speaking of which, as much as I can't stand Weir, I have an aversion to character death so I can't come and play :(
