I've been poking at my wing!fic since I'd like to be done with it in the next week or so. As you know, it's part of an overall series, so I have a lot of different fics and ficlets planned. The one I'm looking to post soon is the very first one. It's gen and it explores when Dean first gets wings. There's a lot of confusion and suspicion in it and I'm really have a fun time writing it. I feel like the beginning is very strong, as well as the subsequent scenes. (Well I'm not satisfied with the very very first opening scene, but I'll go back and tinker when I'm done.)
My problem is that I reached a point where I'm struggling. The fic isn't really going the way I planned. Normally, plotting isn't an issue with me. And I have scenes mapped out. But I just feel something is missing or stagnant and I don't know what it is. In short, something is wrong and is skewing the fic and I need to figure out what it is so I can fix it and proceed. This isn't a minor problem. This will make or break the fic. I know it. I can tell. I just haven't figured out what the problem is yet.
I fear that if I can't find out what the problems is, it will ruin the entire fic and it won't be good enough to post. I take storytelling rather seriously even for fanfic. I might be ten times worse when it goes to my original stuff, but if it's anything I pride myself on it's a decent plot. Even if it's a fic where Dean grows wings.
I think it's going to turn out to be a decent series. I have a of stuff planned for it and it's pure fun. Both the heavy plotty gen parts and the more subplotty shippy parts. I just need to make it through this important cornerstone fic first.
