A New Year and Reflection

Wow. So this whole posting thing? Apparently gets worse every year.

Every year I pledge to change that. Every year I don't.

So this year I'm not pledging to post more or "get back on track." The truth is I rarely post here any more and I am so busy that I can't be fannish in the way I used to be. It's so much easier to post on Twitter and Facebook, both of which can cater to people who don't have time to write a long, thoughtful post.

Still, I have a certain bit of nostalgia for this place and I refuse to close it down. Naturally, any fanfic I write will be posted here, but there are also people on LJ that I care about, and miss very much, and there is always that part of me seeking deeper conversations.

Twitter and Facebook take care of some of my needs, but not those days where I need to have a nice conversation with people. And Tumblr? I loved it at first because, omg so many pretty gifts and art and other visual fun, but it's also full of anger and bitterness, and I find myself not enjoying it at all anymore. Being spread across various social media made me realize how much I miss how this place used to thrive.

Everything changes and people have splintered off to various different social media. Many of us are still here and have drifted, or have gone silent. For those who would like to use LJ more, why not? Whether we agree or see eye to eye isn't important. As long as we respect each other.

I'm creating a filter to actual use. (I've created several in the past to decide what to share with people, but this would be for reading.) Maybe a bunch of us can reconnect. If you want to be added let me know, though I already know many of you who I want to make sure I keep reading.

Just to give an update on what my interest are these days:

Overall, I'm trying hard to focus on my own fiction. I've cut down on TV and have been trying to read more. I also am interested in making bookmarks and steampunk jewelry, as well as getting back into art. I've done more gaming than I have in the recent past, and I've enjoyed going out with friends for the occasional dinner with drinks. Still love music of many flavors. Addicted to the podcast Night Vale. Of course, there is always my original writing, which is slow going but I refuse to abandon. When it comes to TV...

Friending/Unfriending: My standard blather - Many of us have drifted apart and I won't be offended if you're one of those people who would like to go since we just failed to connect. You're welcome to stay, of course. I'm not cutting anyone right now, but you always have that out. Hope you'll stay, though!

Anyway, let's give this a go! I can't promise I'll post all the time, but I can at least make it meaningful :)

Updated About Me Post

Okay. Time for my annual "About Me" post. My personal life has been a bit of a train wreck lately, so I needed something less on the negative side and more on the positive side.

Also, just like my post from last year, it is snowing.

Which gives me some time to play on LJ :)

Friending/Unfriending: My standard blather - Many of us have drifted apart and I won't be offended if you're one of those people who would like to go since we just failed to connect. You're welcome to stay, of course, and believe it or not I do LOVE to talk. So if you are interested in getting to know each other better than just some random fandom stuff, let me know. I love a good healthy conversation. I'm not cutting anyone right now, but you always have that out. Hope you'll stay, though!

There's always more and I'm happy to talk to people who are very different than me as well.

So there you go. Hope everyone is well! Please let me know if I've missed anything important as I haven't been able to read everything.

Dusting off the Cobwebs in My Mind

Okie dokie.

All shoveled out with some time left to play. Bro and I tag teamed the foot of snow we got over night, did a quick fix for our fallen fence, and are now resting.

Which gives me some time to play on LJ :)

Looking ahead, there are a few things I want to be more regular with.

Posting: I want to start posting more again. I feel like a stranger here on my own LJ, and I know it has a lot to do with going back to feeling uncomfortable in my own space. I am by no means a mean-spirited fan (aside from some shows I want to DIE DIE DIE), but I try hard to keep this journal a positive place to come back to. Instead, I've been keeping my mouth shut what I've felt about certain episodes because I don't want to be overwhelmed with negativity. I shouldn't feel the need to hide from my own freakin' journal. I've done this before in the past, but never this bad. So I am percolating on how I will be adding it back into one of the fun parts of my day.

Commenting: I really do want to comment on people's LJ's more. Most of the time I just don't know what to say. Or I have to wade through so much junk before I get to something I can actually comment on, which by then I'm too tired anyway. So I am focusing on being better with that. Which leads to...

Friending/Unfriending: I think a good chunk of us have drifted apart and I won't be offended if you're one of those people who would like to go since we just failed to connect. You're welcome to stay, of course, and believe it or not I do LOVE to talk. So if you are interested in getting to know each other better than just some random fandom stuff, let me know. I love a good healthy conversation. I'm not cutting anyone right now, and I still love the following and would love to continue to talk to you if we have some of these things in common:

Supernatural
Smallville
SG-1
Dark Angel
X-Files
Writing
Reading (I especially like contemporary and urban fantasy)
History/Anthropology/Archaeology
Fanart

I still see myself as primarily a gen person, though there are many het couples I like. I still am all about Sam and Dean on SPN. I still love Dean/Jo even now. I still watch the show for the brother's relationship. And I still love my other shows listed. (Yay, Clark/Lois!)

There's always more and I'm happy to talk to people who are very different than me as well. It's just easier if we have a few things in common. So like I said, if you think it's time to move on and we have nothing in common, feel free to unfriend. But if you would like to know each other better, just drop me a comment or a message :)

BTW, Supernatural STILL ROCKS :)

Art and Fic: You know, I've been making icons here and there, and writing as well, and just not POSTING it. So I need to stop being lazy and just post it already.

So there you go. Hope everyone is well! Please let me know if I've missed anything important as I have been LJ-lazy!

Cuts and Free Passes

I was going to post this earlier, but became side tracked by SV squee.

My flist is big (for me). There are tons of people here I barely know or even worse haven't talked to in months. I have a hard time reading my flist, and I end up missing important stuff often. Lately I haven't been very active and that's because I have a lot on my mind, but I would like to change that. But first I'm just going to do a brief recap of myself.

What You'll Find on My Journal:

I'm obsessed with Supernatural. You'll see fic, art, discussion, etc. here. I don't Wincest or slash for SPN. Total and Complete Deangirl. I watch SPN for the brothers and the family aspect, but I do ship Dean/Jo. I love Smallville, but don't talk much about it. Clark is my fave male character; Lois is my fave female character. Clois rocks. Writing is my #1 passion. I often rant about stupid real life things. X-Files is love. I am nostalgic for SG-1. I can get very fannish about Dark Angel if you push the right buttons. I like to meet new people. Music junkie. I'm aiming to be published by the large NY presses. These are the things you'll see here in various degrees.

More details in my profile or here: http://moonshayde.livejournal.com/580050.html

Friending:

If you're just here to read or for art or something, that's fine.

If you're new (or old) and wondering why the heck I haven't friended you yet, please feel free to comment or PM me. I don't usually friend back unless I talk to someone regularly or unless they ask.

If we haven't spoken in a long time and you'd really like to move on but are afraid to hurt my feelings, either PM me or comment with your concerns or just go ahead and unfriend me.

If you're just really busy right now and would like to stick around - given that you actually see this post - just let me know. All is cool. I know what it's like to get busy and fall behind.

If there is anything else I haven't addressed, just let me know. I don't bite.

I don't mean to make this sound so formal and believe me I HATE friends' cuts. But there is always so much miscommunication online and offline I figured this would help. You don't have to comment or anything. I just don't want anyone to feel ignored. :)

About Me: Revisited

I am reposting this for the new people on my flist. Hi new people! Let us commense the squee :)

The following is by no means a complete list.

Current Active* Fandoms/Shows:
Supernatural (The BIG one for me right now)
Smallville (My crack/fun show - I include other Supes mythos)

Semi-Active/Interests:
Dark Angel
Lost

Non-active Fandoms/Interests:
SG-1 (Still love it, but creatively I'm dry)
Star Wars (But I still love it to pieces)
Final Fantasy X (Awesome story)
X-Files (I miss you, show!)
Harper's Island (It ended up pretty good!)

Possible Future Shows:
Leverage (Sorry, not watching it any time soon)
Chuck (Same with this one)
Flash Forward (Not sure, but I know it starts soon)

I'm still finishing up Farscape, but I'm not liking it as much as most. I am also currently watching Space: Above and Beyond, which is better than I thought it would be.

* I define activity by obsession. The more fannish I am about a show, the more active I am, which means the more likely I'll post art/fic/meta/misc about the show of choice.

Five Things You Might Not Know About Me

Or maybe you do. I've done this before and I'll probably just give the same answers. Plus, I tend to repeat myself so...

1. I've made a career out of writing essays. Not exactly, but I won an essay contest when I was in 1st grade where I read the essay on the radio and was able to lead the parade at the circus that came to town. I won again in 3rd grade, but no circus this time *sad* I won another essay either in 8th grade or 9th grade - can't remember - where I was invited to Washington D.C., but I opted out because it scared me. I also won a Martin Luther King Jr. essay in 10th grade where I had to read in front of an entire congregation. I was following a sermon by their reverend. No pressure. It went well and I was interviewed later. I think maybe I am persuasive with words, but I don't see it.

2. I was assessed to be gifted at an early age. Don't remember how it all started, but the school officials took me out of my normal class and stuck me in some class for gifted creative students. I barely remember the class - I was in Grade 1 - but I can recall one class. They stuck a bunch of clay in front of me and wanted me to sculpt. (Pretty good that I didn't freak considering my fear of clay - thankyouverymuch Gumby and the Clay Monster.) I remember all the other kids went nuts and started creating right away. I stared at the clay for a long time. I wanted to make some kind of princess or fantasy creature, but I knew it never would be perfect so I froze. I think maybe the school people made a mistake ;) Anywho, they also wanted me to skip a grade but my parents said no. I'm thankful they did.

3. I talk to dead people. Maybe. Either I have an overactive imagination, am crazy, or just something I can't explain, but I've had several deceased people tell me things in dreams. The biggest example is that for several years my grandmother would come to me in dreams and tell me events that would happen in the future. Recurring dreams. And then the events would happen. That was different. I've had other people tell me things - boxes hidden here, go tell this or that, but I never did because I figured I just being silly again. Who knows. It hasn't happened in a while, though. I also sometimes can hear snatches of conversations before they happen and I've been told by a psychic once that I am clairaudiant or something like that, but I don't believe it.

4. I've seen UFO's. If I couldn't get weirder. I have seen lights in the sky. They chased each other - they would go straight up, down, zip backwards and front again. To this day, I still have no clue what they were. Maybe something military or something else natural over the water. No clue. But they were unidentified and flying and objects, so they fit the bill even if little grays weren't piloting them ;)

5. I tend to use self-depreciating humor to get a laugh. It's my schtick. Can you tell?

The Music of Me

I talk a lot about my fannish activities but I rarely talk music. I am not sure why considering how much music is a part of me. I've been listening to music before I can remember. I was raised with music around me. I have a mother that is heavily invested in music and I figure it was her love for music that left an impact on me today even if we listen to very very different stuff. My dad also likes music, but doesn't have that aching need for it like the rest of the family does.

Fanfic Question Meme

You know, I was going to make one of these and then I found this via platysseus. Excellent. Saves me the trouble :)

1)How about a brief introduction of yourself?
If you're here, you probably know that I love to write. I've written in several fandoms, but I've mostly been active in SG-1 and Supernatural. I do dabble a bit in other fandoms too, like Smallville and Dark Angel. My fanfic time is very small these days since I work mostly on original fiction.

2)Fabulous, and what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Before I even knew what it was, I was writing it. I just wanted to hear more adventures in the Star Wars universe and the published EU books really weren't doing it for me. And this was before they were even called EU. I didn't know it was an actual fannish movement until I discovered SG-1 and the internet.
